My father’s family settled in Shawano County, Wisconsin in 1860. This is the rural farming community where my grandfather met my grandmother at a barn dance. It is the place where my father spent his early years at the cheese factory operated by his parents. It is where we returned to visit each year during my formative years. Our family homes and structures still stand, but a new section of Interstate running through the area cast these buildings in a temporal light in my mind. These photographs of Shawano County document familial history preserve the places of memory.
